Chairs, 2019 – 2020

Instagram became the home of this project documenting one hundred and fifty chairs observed in a variety of locations and an important exhibition space for my Art Studio Master of Fine Art research at the University of California, Davis (UC Davis). The project catalyzed some social media fans to contribute their own documentation. At the end of the UC Davis program the review committee of art faculty gave me a Fail grade and provided one Summer to complete the research. As a deep reflection of the effect of the global pandemic on my research, Chairs ended in favor of fire performance as can been seen by the final image collected in 2020 at the bottom of the page. Fellow researcher then Performance Studies PhD candidate Maurice Moore looks on as I stoke the fire. While Chairs is not the work presented for my Master’s Thesis is was an important step in understanding the language of Art.
